Antiinflammatory effect of Devil’s claw

  • Inhibition of the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines by LPS-stimulated monocytes, e.g. cytokines IL-1ß, IL-6 and TNF-α.
  • IL-1ß seems to play a special role in the pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases.

The inhibition of IL-1ß by watery extracts of Devil‘s claw roots is apparently more pronounced than by alcoholic extracts.*
